The Liberal Man's Burden by Daniel Greenfield

One-hundred and thirteen years ago, Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem about the American enterprise in the Philippines. The title of that poem has since become a byword for racist colonialism and yet its text is a sardonic recitation of the dim virtues of the "Savage wars of peace"."Go bind your sons to exile, To serve your captives' need;" Kipling wrote. "To seek another's profit, And work another's gain. Fill full the mouth of Famine, And bid the sickness cease."

This moral imperialism has never gone away, though it is no longer thought of in racial terms. For over a hundred years, the United States has gone on trying to feed and cure the world, sacrificing for others and seeing nothing in return.

The True "1%" Are the Political Elite

During his bid for re-election, Barack Obama talked of fairness, as he did in his State of the Union address to Congress. His talk is simply political rhetoric. He is not truly concerned about the depressed state of the economy, the middle class, the oppressed conditions of the poor, or even about basic economic fairness. If he is truly concerned about these issues, he would push to implement effective policies to deal with them.

 

In his State of the Union address he zeroed in on his polarizing ideological understanding of the cause of America's economic problems while offering no solutions applicable to a free society. He said,

"We can either settle for a country where a shrinking number of people do really well, while a growing number of Americans barely get by. Or we can restore an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules."

How can Obama talk about everyone "doing their fair share" when many able bodied people don't work at all and nothing is required or expected of them (except voting for Democrats)?
It is not fair to take money from hard working American citizen taxpayers and freely give it to those among us who are willfully indolent? That is not fair or morally right!  

How can Obama even talk about "everyone gets a fair shot" and "everyone playing by the same rules" when he refuses to uphold the Constitution by enforcing laws he disagrees with, and by twisting government regulations and entire agencies (IRS) to punish his political foes and to reward his political supporters?

The true 1% are the political elite! They are rewarded with excessive salaries and retirement plans, unearned benefits and bonuses and extravagant vacations. They are not held accountable for immoral or even criminal behavior!     

Many sorrowful consequences await Americans and people of the world if this administration is allowed to continue implementing its destructive agenda. 

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when a wicked man rules, the people groan (mourn). Proverbs 29:2 KJV

Yahweh is our only hope. His arm is not too short to intervene but His requirements must be met. Sin calls for repentance which leads to forgiveness, healing and restoration.

I encourage you to trust God, pray and vote in 2014.

You Shall Not Covet or Occupy Wall Street!

"... there exists... in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom."   Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America ( Ch3, 56) 

As you know, we are living in volatile times. Some are currently calling it pre-revolutionary. As the picture illustrates, Occupy Wall Street protesters are out sharing their bleak, distorted picture of the future based on the class warfare message that President Obama and his anti-American, socialist partners have given them. 

Another sign I saw read, "Where's our bailout?" Pure socialism! While it's appropriate to protest bank bailouts and the entire immoral "Too Big to Fail" policy. It is not okay to expect the government, using taxpayer money, to support all American citizens, whether they work or not, from cradle to grave.

Freedom and the Nanny State cannot co-exist! And, in spite of the Utopian dreams, the Nanny State can only hope to offer an impoverished equality among the 99% of its enslaved subjects. No middle class! No hope for change! But these sign bearers don't get it.

We must ask ourselves how much our freedom is worth? Many have already paid for it with their lives! Will we sell ourselves and our children into slavery for the hopes of a piece of bread?

As for me, give me "freedom with inequality" as we have it now! 

We need change, but not the kind that's being forced on us by President Obama and his backers. We need to return to righteousness!

The Bible says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children." Hosea 4:6

America was founded on Christian principles. God wanted us to be a nation of priests for Him. People who know Him and His commandments which under gird progress and prosperity, providing abundant life for those willing to responsibly participate in civic life!

He birthed our nation in freedom through godly and courageous founding fathers who developed God-inspired documents proclaiming and legally ensuring our God-given unalienable rights!

Yes, our founding fathers and the earlier generations of this great nation had godly knowledge. They built their lives and our nation's foundations solidly on their personal understanding of the Bible as God's Holy Word. From young children they knew the 10 Commandments.

The Bible was freely read and used for instruction in our schools and colleges. Godly knowledge filled the land and the nation prospered. And, that's when de Tocqueville visited America and attributed her greatness to her goodness! (What would he say now?)

But, slowly, secular humanists began rewriting our history and taking over our public schools which had been started primarily to teach our nation's children how to read the Bible so they would be virtuous citizens.  Secular humanists rejected godly knowledge and used ungodly judges to twist our founding documents to forbid the very Bible those documents were based on from being used in our schools.

Secular humanists began to lead many people back into spiritual darkness. By forbidding the posting of The 10 Commandments and banning prayer in schools, they left teachers and students afloat in troubled seas, in a morally rudderless boat, without a compass. And this "unguided" boat swiftly drifted into dangerous waters; so that, now we must work to ban guns instead of chewing gum from our schools!

This lack of moral guidance led to the tragic shooting of an eighth grade student in Brownsville, Texas this week. I wonder how many of the 10 Commandments he knew? Knowledge matters!

Those who still know the 10 Commandments know that the Occupy Wall Street movement is wrong, even if our president doesn't. The 1% being used as a political scapegoat cannot carry our sins away or even pay our bills for us! We, as individuals and as a nation, need to return to God!

"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17

Occupy Wall Street, while accusing some of greed, is squarely based on covetousness (wanting what belongs to your neighbor), which God's word says is a sin! And, it is not the way to get our nation back on the right track and to secure the renewed blessings of liberty in our land.

As Paul said in Romans 7:7, "I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "You must not covet."  Well, if you didn't know, now you do. So, "Go and sin no more."  :-)

Equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, is provided in a free country. It does no good to demand rights! If we want to retain our freedom, we must repent of our sins and do what is right.

Democracy in America (1835), published after his travels in the United States, is excellent. It's an education in democracy, freedom based on religiously inculcated virtue, and American exceptionalism. 

Doing Virtuous Business by Theodore Roosevelt Malloch

Doing Virtuous Business by Theodore Roosevelt Malloch is a refreshing book. Dr. Malloch says, "the creation of wealth by virtuous means is the most important thing we can do for ourselves and others, for our society, and for the world at large."

At a time when capitalism is being criticized and undermined by mistaken economists, misguided politicians and falsely called "liberal" professors (they certainly aren't for freedom); we need a voice to clarify what's at stake. This book does just that.

What is capitalism? Dr. Malloch says, "Capitalism--just another name for the free economy--is a system in which capital is held in private hands, and in which people are free to spend it, waste it, invest it, accumulate it, and share it as they choose. In the nearly century-long contest between capitalism and communism, capitalism triumphed... because it alone expresses and preserves the gift of human freedom."

Those who long for socialism cry out for poverty and servitude unawares! Dr. Malloch makes the case that only "virtuous" capitalism can produce the wealth needed to raise the human race out of poverty. And, contrary to what you may have heard, capitalism is first and foremost based on virtue. "A free market depends upon honesty and accountability; it also tends to produce these virtues." Why? Because, in time, a free market will expose frauds.

Contrary to the "TV caricature" of businessmen as being "pragmatic and self-seeking athiest(s)", he says, "sociologists discovered that, next to military officers and church professionals, more business people attended church every week than any other elite: twice as many as congressional aides, four times as many as news-media professionals, and nine times as many as elites of the TV and movie industries."

Dr. Malloch gives us a detailed description of the virtues of business: faith, honesty, gratitude, perseverance, compassion, forgiveness, patience, humility, courage, respect, generosity, discipline, chastity and thrift. This section alone makes reading the book worthwhile. And, he follows up with many examples of these virtues being practiced by businessmen and corporations today.

Oh, one more topic.  If you need a refresher course on the true meaning of social justice, this book's for you. There's so much good information here, you can't go wrong in reading Doing Virtuous Business!

The Joy of Monogamy!

At a time when immorality is commonplace and fidelity to one partner is considered outdated, it's refreshing to hear someone so eloquently defend the value of God's monogamous design for marriage. And do so out of a sense of grateful wonder. 

Unless you are already a reader of  G.K. Chesterton, I imagine you will be as surprised and delighted as I am to find such an exuberant declaration of appreciation by a man for the privilege of having a wife! The following statement by Chesterton is from Orthodoxy. 

Keeping to one woman is a small price for so much as seeing one woman. To complain that I could only be married once was like complaining that I had only been born once. It was incommensurate with the terrible excitement of which one was talking. It showed not an exaggerated sensibility to sex, but a curious insensibility to it. A man is a fool who complains that he cannot enter Eden by five gates at once. Polygamy is a lack of the realization of sex; it is like a man plucking five pears in mere absence of mind.

Surely one might pay for extraordinary joy in ordinary morals. 

Chesterton has a way of making commonsense observations sound like the wisdom of the ages. He takes us back to the basics even as he makes us feel we have become privy to a brand new discovery. When we view things through his eyes we become as little children with the ability to take joy in life's everyday events as if they are the gifts of an eternal Christmas morning!

We have become too mature when we can no longer see and enjoy the wonder of having been given a marital partner to share our lives with. And, we've become too proud when we lose the ability to be grateful to God and our spouse for such an undeserved blessing. And, we've become fools if we think playing by His rules of morality will hinder rather than enhance our lives and our relationships.

During the millennial reign and beyond, (Jesus) will be called Wonderful Counselor... Isaiah 9:6.
Why not take His advice now and save yourself a lot of heartache. Unless you are in an abusive relationship, be thankful for and exclusively love the one you're with!
